I wanted to pop in and say hi real quick.
You can call me Andy or Gandhicus--doesn't really matter--and I love Diablo 2! Lately, I've been playing a bunch of PD2 on my wind Druid. But honestly, it's been feeling like PD2 isn't really cutting it for me by itself. The mod has a LOT of amazing additions and it's just overall impressive, but a part of me just desires the really authentic and raw D2 experience, where the focus is on progressing through the campaign, and every little thing that helps you matters.
This all changed for me the other day when I started reading the Singling's mod readme on Codeberg. It really opened my eyes on how different older versions were, and all the cool things in them that aren't discussed too much nowadays.
Preservation really strikes a chord in me, because I'm someone who's hugely into studying old versions/alphas of games I like. For example, Half Life, Minecraft, Pokemon, RotMG, etc. It's always amazing analyzing the differences between versions of games--sometimes there's minor differences that look weird because you're so used to seeing them the "normal" way (for example it was genuinely shocking seeing the way 1.00 displayed sockets on items), and sometimes they're fundamentally different games. Being able to play D2's older versions so easily is such a blessing that I rarely get to experience for other games. I also really love Everless's youtube channel, particularly his videos on alpha Diablo II.
Right now, I've continued my Succulent run as a light Sorc (softcore). Been enjoying it a lot, I'm super excited to see some interesting rares. Right now the coolest things I've found are probably a +5 MAEK bone wand and a +3 CL/+1 Ice Blast staff. Not to mention an Eye of Etlich (+1 amulet) from normal trav, which was super thrilling to get. I'm gonna stop procrastinating work now, hope everyone who reads has a nice day, and I'll definitely make a post for my Succulent sorc soon.
