Now imagine then putting 3xBer in that. However, getting such a roll would take forever, especially as the crafting ingredients are harder to get. That isn't even getting into finding 3xBer, or any rune Mal+ really is considered a high rune pre 1.10 due to no cubing recipes.Crafted Grand Matron Bow

It's really silly how much focus there is now on useless things like base defense, because there's no other way to have a better fixed-stat item. The difference between a rock-bottom Breast Plate and perfect Superior Archon Plate is close to zero, but one commands a higher value because it's the only way to have a "better" Enigma. So as you can see, the possibilities are endless, just like pre LoD, the best possible items can exist, but in practice wont as the odds of getting them would only happen once in an entire realm of people playing. Thus it gives you a reason to always come back, there's always a better rare (1.05) craft (1.07) to be found. It's a huge shame they destroyed crafting with 1.09 and made runewords the best in 1.10. This just results in the same cookie cutter. Why bother looking for a godly rare/crafted sword if Grief hands-down does more average damage than the best possible anything?
Yep. Something that I've realized lately after thinking long and hard about how I plan to balance my Diablo 1 rewrite are the problems the expansion gave D2. The thing is, in pre LoD bosses only drop good the first time, and even then only 2-3 items. After that they drop like a unique monster. Since Magic Find only works on white mobs, that means that drops in terms of rarity are evenly distributed. Not only that, but the game capped out at exceptional items, so effectively any base item can drop anywhere in hell, and roll all affixes except +2 skill amulets (which must come from diablo).Something I've come to appreciate about D2C is how much friction there is to get items.
Is there a chance that there is a "Souls Dance" type event for Runes, like selling Runes to vendors in Act 5, or dropping runes on the ground in a pattern...?Video now available: [Diablo II] Dancing of the Souls Easter Egg - Infinite Magic Find
I’ve been hearing about this easter egg for a few months, although I only recently found out that the "dancing of the souls" easter egg is not just an artificial visual fun thing, but it actually does have gameplay implications through the boosting of magic find, if done properly.
Mr. Llama’s video shows this off here, and people on the PureDiablo forum have been speaking about it from the perspective of 1.07/1.08, which don’t have diminishing returns on magic find. This means you can force unique drops from basically all monsters in those versions.
From what I’ve read so far (some may not be 100% true but may be approximately true):
1. The earliest discovered code for this easter egg goes back to 1.04 (but @ZOMBY has confirmed that this works in 1.00).
2. The magic find buff lasts around 19.2 hours.
3. The magic find buff stacks if you repeat the easter egg.
4. The letters spelled out by the souls are the letters of the developers (David, Erich, Max, Etc).
5. Each letter that the soul spells out will increase your MF count.
6. The buff will reset if you leave the game or die.
The technique to trigger this is basically:
1. Go to Plains of Despair
2. Get 4 souls together (you’ll probably want to clear some mobs and isolate them. Some people say 3 souls works as well).
3. Let them attack you. Don’t move/attack or do anything (Drinking pots will not affect it).
4. Eventually the souls will \"get in sync\" and stop attacking you. They will start using their lightning to spell letters. If they don’t start spelling letters within 1-2 minutes, you’ll probably want to move around and try again.
Once they are done spelling all of their letters, your buff will be activated. You can re-do this trick with the same souls and it will stack.
Soul Sequence Patterns (D -> E -> M - > V? -> R? -> A? -> S?)
The initial 3 letters are most likely David Brevik, Erich Schaefer, Max Schaefer, and I’m guessing some of the other letters are for Rick Seis, Phil Shenk, to name a few). Once the souls finish their sequence, they will attack you again.
I’ll be trying to replicate this on 1.05b to see what happens (on a cloned testing character). Although I don’t know if I’ll be using this myself, or will be using it frequently, not sure yet. Part of the fun is playing normally and letting the RNG stuff happens and getting that dopamine hit whenever a rare/unique does drop. We’ll see how I feel about it. Are you all planning on using this in your playthroughs?
I only asked because I had a crazy game recently that I wish I recorded, I sold some Runes in act 5 to Anya (was gambling and had maxed out my rune stacks) during the process I had accidentally dropped a couple of runes on the ground during the selling process. Anyways from this point I continued on with my game, and this is where it got weird. Almost every 3-4 monster killed dropped a Rune, it did this for almost 20 minutes before I died to Shenk, at that point the Runes stopped dropping. I just figured I had a run of good luck. I mentioned the game to a friend and he said that there was recently this "Souls Dance Ritual" so we thought maybe this was another hidden secret. I personally think I got lucky but he insisted I ask around, so here I am asking around.Probably not @Kakita. The Souls Dance existed essentially since 1.00, which didn't contain any Runes yet (introduced in LOD 1.07). I also don't think Blizzard made any adjustments to this Souls Dance system when LOD came out so I would assume that it just affects the chance for the item quality to increase rather than changing the weights of the drop tables in favor of Runes, or for higher Runes in their TC tables to be selected (like making Zod chance more easily accessible than it's normal base probability). Also, welcome to the forums @Kakita.
