Any chance of a 1.09d Succulent release?

I understand that 1.09b was chosen because of the ctc bug, but the d2dx glide wrapper which enables widescreen and 60 fps (sort of) doesn't work for this version. Furthermore, there is a patch on phrozen keep that fixes the 1.09d ctc bug so there really isn't any downside I can see to this as far as I know. Thanks for all your work with cactus and I respect that this is probably not in the cards, as I imagine it's a bit of work at this point to enable support for another version. It's just unfortunate I can't enjoy succulent without these black borders on the sides of my screen :'(.

Hello and Welcome @GoonBoiBarry 👋

Just wanted to say that I recently arrived at the same conclusion regarding 1.09b vs 1.09d. You can see the discussion here: ⬇️

Enabling Widescreen Support on 1.09b (SGD2FreeRes)

TLDR: I absolutely love playing the game in widescreen now and with working ctc. I actually went a step further, and also restored players 64 functionality!

Anyways, regarding Succulent, knowing @fearedbliss, I'd venture to say he's not interested in changing his mod, as he is historically pretty firm about which patches he plays and supports. But perhaps he will surprise us someday? :p

Thanks for the welcome :) and for sharing that thread, glad to see we share the same opinion. Yeah, I figured it would be a whole lot of work to change even if fearedbliss did agree and that thread kinda confirms that, as I imagine the dll offsets would pose the same problem for porting Succulent. Oh well, I may just have to cut charm drops, make the unique changes myself and live without the rest. Anyway, love the community you guys have here :). I'll be sure to check in every now and then.

For what it's worth, Succulent, like most mods, makes its changes mostly through patching the MPQ, which is interchangeable in 1.09. Therefore, you can just copy over the Path_D2.mpq from succulent into 1.09d and still get nearly everything like disabled charms, unique items, crafts etc.

I actually thought the same thing and although I haven't tested it yet, I briefly checked the patch_d2 and found the uniquesitems.txt weren't altered there. So I guess they are modified through dll's, or maybe there's something I'm missing?

@GoonBoiBarry Welcome to the forums! You and Manny are correct in that I’m not interested in supporting 1.09d. You are also right that the primary reason I went with 1.09b was for players 64 and CtC bug being fixed in that version. I’m also not really a fan of too many modifications to Diablo II (ironic but it shows in how I divided by work between Cactus/Singling/Succulent/Alpaca). I tend to support cnc-draw and tend to stick to changes that can be applied across all versions if possible. There aren’t many modern video adapters that can support 1.00-1.13d (and can include 1.14d as well) these days.

As for swapping the MPQ, most of the changes are in the Patch_D2.mpq as @galaxyhaxz said, but there are many important modifications that are in the DLLs including but not limited to the Expanded Classic Stash (and the majority of stuff in the Quality of Life section of Succulent) and all of the Singling improvements.

I only play in window mode but with cnc-draws static resolution for the window container set to something big enough to be fun and comfortable on a 4K monitor. This means no borders and correct/original aspect ratio.

Also regarding the MPQ modifications, my mod changes are proprietary so you won’t find them in the MPQs.

Thank you @fearedbliss and no worries, I get that it's subjective and I don't believe developers should cater to users if they don't agree. Just figured I'd ask :). I may mess around with potential configurations for 09b, but if I wanted to copy the mpq over to 09d, do you think there would be any spillover issues with bisecting the mod in such a way? Also when you say proprietary, I understand the word, but does that mean something in relation to files/mpqs? Like the files are invisible, or are you saying the unique and charm changes aren't located there?

It means I don’t publish any of my modifications publicly so people can’t really extend my mod directly.
