What is are the best practices and method used to mule items off/on to characters?

My guess would be to create a TCP/IP game and log into it with the mule.

How do you mule items and bonus for how to keep everything organized and accounted for. I had previous issues with items being hard to find between too many miles on my older account.

Yea TCP/IP after installing Singling into your Worldstones so that you can run multiple instances.

I just competed my first muling session using TCP/IP and multi-instance with singling upgrade. I'm not sure if my method was correct so I will post it here for critique:

-Selected the shard containing the items that need to be muled off
-Select clone
-Summon each shard then alt+enter into windowed mode
-Select the character with the items that need muling and create a TCP/IP game
-Create a mule on second windowed shard and join the TCP/IP game
-Mule the items
-Save and exit on the mule
-Save and exit on the character that created the game
-Leave both shards alive in cactus
-Label the cloned shard as a mule shard?? Or maybe make a note for each shard that they are linked??

Still have no yet tried to change the backup directory location. Will need to consult the readme.

No need to have two separate shards for this purpose. If a shard has the same Worldstone and Shard values they are considered Aliases of each other and are the same shard. Since you have Singling installed, you can just use the same shard to open up multiple instances of the game. You may want to have a second shard so you can run everything after the first one without sound using -ns, cause if you open all of them with sound you are gonna hear a lot of sound from each window lol.

The other steps look good. I normally only play in Window Mode so it saves me a few keystrokes as well haha.

For backup path you just go to Settings and put the full path to where you want to save your backups in. Example: /home/jon/Backups.

Cactus will automatically try to create the folder and verify you have permissions for that folder.

Funny you mention the sound issue. I moved and entire stash of mana pots to a sorc and it was an echo fest.

I was also considering the idea of making an enchant sorc to help boost my new characters through act 1, or maybe even help rush them. I never really considered doing any of that because before I would TCP/IP to my self using 2 side by side computers and it was a bit more clunky than having 2 instances on one screen.

Using CTRL + ALT is very fast and my screen freaks out and flashes black for a few seconds each time I minimize a full screen game, so windowed mode is way faster. I imagine if I just set my desktop resolution to 800x600 before launching it would probably fix the flashing but windowed is fine for me.

I have yet to mess with manually setting the window size before launching the game, not sure I really need to in this case.

I have a 4K display so I always need to adjust the window size or it will be too small. You'll need to edit your Common/Core/ddraw.ini file and adjust as follows:

width=1024
height=768
fullscreen=false
windowed=true

That will make the game start in window mode by default at a 1024x768 resolution. You may need to tweak it until you find a comfortable number for the distance you are sitting from your screen and your monitor size/resolution. You'll want to use only 4:3 aspect ratio resolutions. The following resolutions may help:

Will try this out this week and see how it goes. I sent my T60 for a processor swap to 64 bit and an SXGA+ screen swap. I also purchased a second T60 on ebay with some upgrades. The guy doing the work, isaiah53 on ebay, said he is going to install windows 7 on both and leave 300gb unallocated SSD space so I can install linux. If anyone is interested in buying a T60 or frankenpad T60/61 he has a good selection and I had a great experience with him.

I am going to compare the 800x600 to the 1400x1050 and see which is easier on the eyes. Am also going to reinstall StarCraft 1 and Heroes 3 as soon as I get the delivery.

Don't you play on 640x480? Why do you prefer a smaller in-game sight distance? I assuming you are scaling the window up to make it easier to see as well. I was also curious if AI aggros you from a shorter distance if you play on the small resolution.

Yup I play on the original game internal resolution (640x480) and use cnc-ddraw to have a bigger game window. You’ll want to read why I play on the original resolution here.

@Bambi1775 I've added some documentation regarding muling and video configuration to the documentation. I've also implemented and released an Overlay system which should make things much easier and safer. You should read the patch notes and visit the Singling page for instructions on how to set it up using the new overlay system.

That's awesome, thank you. I think I'm going to try my first d2 (non-lod) character later this week and try the 640x480 and see how I like it.
