New ARPG by Blizzard North / Diablo devs:

Thanks for the thread @369th. I've been following this game too, and so far it seems promising. It will be fun to discuss it here on TMC.

Does anyone know if they will have Matt Uelmen creating the music/ambience?

To me it seems like it will be a grittier/darker Torchlight which for me is a very good thing. I loved Torchlight, but I appreciate the more serious tone.

Looking good. I'm really hoping for the following things or it's an immediate no-go for me:

1. Should work on Windows 10. I've taken a hard stance against Windows 11 and I've made it pretty public as well. So much so that I've stopped all Windows development and only continue maintaining Cactus and co for Windows 7 - 10 only. I'm fine if people fork Cactus and maintain their own branches if they want, but my branch won't include any support for Windows 11 and if there are any bugs reported on Windows 11 that don't happen on Windows 7 - 10, I will close those bug reports as NOT SUPPORTED. The alternative is they support Linux so that I could play it on there if it's gonna be supported on a non-Windows platform.

2. Cannot have DRM and should be fully playable offline. I know at the moment you can wishlist it on Steam, but I've also stopped supporting and buying Valve/Steam products starting in 2020, and DRM is the primary reason for this. I know about Steamworks and how the author needs to opt into it. I'm against my ownership being behind a mandatory online account that I need to log into periodically. This is one of the main reasons I never bought Diablo II: Resurrected. I even deleted my Battle.net account in 2018 after the whole California lawsuit stuff came out (last straw). Hopefully the game gets released on GOG eventually or some other way of getting a DRM-free version. I'm fine buying from them directly if they would allow that.

The following isn't major but I noticed that they have gone with a Diablo III-ish inventory where item sizes are no longer proportional to the actual size of the item (normalization of all item inventory slots). This is unfortunate. The inventory tetris IMO is a defining characteristic of Diablo 1 and 2, and it would be nice to continue to keep that type of visual feel and scaling effect. Making the size of a javelin, an ornate plate, and a bonesnap the same 2 slots would be sad and doesn't properly convey the gravity of the item. I haven't spent too much time really dissecting the video but these are my first impressions from the new video.

@fearedbliss I like your musts and pretty much concur with all points! I am also fully AGAINST Windows 11 and will remain on Windows 10 for gaming indefinitely. And I don't even have a Steam account myself, so I also hope they release this as a complete DRM free game on either their own storefront or somewhere like GOG or HumbleBundle. Shoot I'm even willing to pay extra for an OG style Big Box with a large manual and the game on CD/DVD. These developers should honor their heritage as pioneers of the genre! Physical Media FTW...

BTW I noticed this and I think it's a typo: you meant to write offline, amirite?

Lol yea it should be "fully playable offline". Edited. I also would love to have an old school physical box release with a fully playable 1.0.0 on the disc with no drm. Let's go Moon Beast!
