Hey everyone!

Call me just kereby, kerb, kerbo or even kirby if you want.

I got into Diablo II very recently, about a year ago, despite that I watched my older sister playing it during my childhood. And even when I tried it back then, I think I picked druid for my first run, unlocked "Poison Creeper" which then scared me so much... Nevertheless, I've been looking for a game that makes me feel like I've invested time into a character for the past several years. I tried MMOs first and stuck with RuneScape for a while, until I started feeling as if I'm using my free time in a wrong way. Then one evening Diablo might have popped up when talking with my sister, so I decided to give it a try. And oh boy was it worth it!

I wanna say big thanks to fearedbliss for creating this forum and other people active here! It's a great pleasure to read stuff about the game I got invested into. I'm glad this exists, because it's so hard to find resources and info specific to og D2/D2LOD nowadays!!! >_< Also, fearedbliss, thanks creating for Cactus. I found it amazing to use :)

Peace!

Welcome to the forum @kereby0. I’m glad you have been finding Cactus and the forum useful. I’m also hoping you are on Cactus on Linux since the Windows version is dead now lol. I have a public link for it available but there is no support anymore for it and it uses a different architecture than the new one.

I am! :-) I was actually surprised when I found out Cactus has Linux support.

I also like how the latest version works. As a user, it feels in order and easy to use. I'm not sure if that's my old habits or the UNIX type of file system, but after I moved to Linux my user folders feel much more organized and less flooded with trash files, so I especially like the "order" part :-)

Haha definitely. What do you mean by latest version works? Like Cactus 5.6.1 or Diablo II versions? Or it works on your latest Linux distro?

Ah ok. That sounds good then! Have fun in Sanctuary and stay safe out there. Lol.

Also, what distro+distro version are you using atm?

@kereby0 What up big Kerb?! Lol, that's what I'm gonna call you. Welcome to the forum, amigo.

This statement resonates with me quite a bit. When I returned to Diablo 2 in 2022, this was one of my driving desires. Getting engrossed in a classic PC game where I can see a ROI for my time, and be able to stack progress over the years. It's been a fun and rewarding experience, and I've been able to recreate some of my favorite characters from my childhood, such as my level 99 Windforce wielding Bowazon, and my v1.09 Nova Sorceress.

I'm currently leveling a Paladin with @Web79 on TCP/IP, so just know when you do feel like playing with others, that's still an option.

I hope to see you around. Please feel free to come back with any questions, or to simply share your D2 journey with us! :)

Thank you!

I'm currently using PikaOS (Linux 7.1.8-pikaos), which is built on Debian Sid I believe, and KDE Plasma 6.5.4 as a DE. Cactus 5.6.1 works without issues. Although on the version before 5.6.1, I had an "Unhandled Exception c0000005" when trying to launch 1.06b with Singling. I know that Udeshi posted about this, but I guess I don't have to bump the thread already lol

Also worked without issues or additional adjustments on AVLinux with Enlightenment DE. Last time I used it was on 5th of August this year

Hi Manny! 👋

This! I agree with you 100%

so just know when you do feel like playing with others, that's still an option.
Oh I'm certainly up for one at some point, once I deal with my irl stuff. I have managed to bring back my aforementioned sister back to D2 as well and we had a lot of fun through TCP/IP :)

See you around y'all!

I’ve reverted (https://themovingcaravan.com/thread...-for-1-03-battle-chest-version.443/#post-3184 ) my 1.06b upgrade and went back to 1.05b so you can ignore 1.06b. I temporarily experimented with upgrading from 1.05b but after thinking about it it wasn’t worth it and 1.05b is still the best version we can use for the Single Player community. We are also not really losing anything by staying behind and it’s actually a negative to upgrade to 1.06b due to the anti dupe stuff and some other technical stuff. Please redownload the latest Cactus bundle and switch to 1.05b. The characters are compatible between 1.06b and 1.05b so they will downgrade perfectly fine. Let me know once you’ve done that.

Additionally since you did get that access violation error on 1.06b, could you try 1.03 with Singling and see if it works for you or if you also get an access violation. Thank you!

Sure, I will test that tomorrow. Should I post the feedback here or create a thread in the Technical Support?
