I've taken a Sorceress to p8 Queen before in 1.05, but she was built to be very tanky (Twitchthroe / 3PD Tower Shield, high Vitality). I've always wanted to build a classic 7-frame caster, which eats most of your gear slots (Magefist, Eyeless, wand/Shard, 3x pieces of jewelry) but lets you sling spells at warp speed. To make up for the lack of Frostburn/SOJ, I'm putting every single point into Energy (as inspired by the classic Wussie, but I'm not that crazy). I imagine I'll use 2 Perfect Amethysts in a Cap for +18 strength, hope to find Boots of the Titan, and see if I can get 45 Strength for Magefist without investing stat points.
I did a full p8 run using self-MP, but I'm trying Singling this time. Classic MP is really buggy and I'm excited to fight monsters that don't jump all over the screen. I went with 1.00 since Sorcs aren't really impacted by the many many bugs, and I'd like to find a sweet Pike or Gothic Bow to use on a future character (1.00 or 1.04).
Marle is currently at Level 9 at the Stony Field WP. I had forgotten just how weak Sorcs are early on, especially without strength! One of the toughest fights for a level 1 Sorc are the first Zombies in the Blood Moor, since they take forever to kill and 2 can do you in. I used a lot of low-quality Javelins in the Den, spammed Ice Bolts, and got through without dying (although Corpsefire took a ton of punishment from my 1-5 damage stick). The Cold Plains WP had a Dark Ranger bosspack on it; I baited them off, shopped a 5-15 damage Spear (no stat requirements) and ran around -> spammed Bolts -> poked -> Akara'd until they finally fell. I got to level 6 during the fight, so finishing the actual boss was a breeze thanks to Static. I cruised through the Plains, had a scare against Extra Strong Rangers at the entrance to the Stony Field, and hit the WP. I fought Rakanishu and took advantage of the star bug to maximize Static; even with his lightning resist, SF was just too strong.
