So, I just managed to get my Sorc in v1.00 Magefist, Wall Of Eyeless and a nice FCR Scepter.
Magefist and Wall of Eyeless both offer 'Faster Cast Rate', while my Scepter has 'Fastest Cast Rate'.
Considering that there exist three different Item Mods for Cast Rate, I wonder how much percent is actually added and how the breakpoints behave.
How I understand it (and I#m probably wrong 😅), it goes like this:
Fast Cast Rate = 10%
Faster Cast Rate = 20%
Fastest Cast Rate = 30%
So with my gear I should be at 70% FCR, but it doesn't feel like it. It seems like my Sorc is casting way faster than with the 63% Breakpoint.
Were the FCR Breakpoints different back then?
And what about FHR? What's the difference between Fast Hit Recovery and Fastest Hit Recovery?

From my understanding the words “Fast Cast Rate” isn’t consistent across items so you can’t assume it’s 10% all the time. You need to take it as an increase in the value at a specific tier level relative to the item in a way… so it could be 5% for one item while it could be 8% for another item. There isn’t really a way to calculate it.

I kinda liked this older approach actually cause a lot of items people nowadays focus too much on the details and less on the moment to moment experience. The original philosophy from my understanding that the developers had and why they gave us vague wording is that they wanted us to focus more on playing the game and less on number crunching. So by eliminating the numbers you’ll just know that you are getting some sort of increased benefit by using that piece but you don’t have to spend time doing math lol.

Had the same thought, about the developers wanting people to just focus more on the gameplay, than spending too much time on planning out the gear they would wear.

This kind of fits with David Brevik's design philosophy. According to him, that was the whole reason why you just pick one class and don't spend any time customizing it in the menu like in other rpgs.

I guess, I will just swap out Wall of Eyeless when I need more resistances. Better feel safe, than sorry, now that I'm in Hell difficulty. FCR seems good enough with just the Scepter and Magefist.

ya but then you need a balanced game and its far from balanced...
back in the old days there were hundreds of fan diablo 2 sites problem is what info is wright or wrong. the arreat summit was more for online play and keep up with the latest patch but not official archive for older patches (ya we have way wayback machine ) but i dont consider that archived properly.

i remember going to many sites for builds. we got things like redit and jsp witch kinda got rid of sites. later on youtube and discord

d3 kinda made thigns more simple but there were alot of problems the killed it for most.
auction house. pay to win. and well you can make money kinda like gold farms in wow in 3erd party countrys
trading got turnd off i do belave so people dint get hacked...thow you got hacked and there like buy this "$20 authenticator" so you "dont get hacked"
pvp was hard to balnace for...
drops...you never got any drops... then they updated and its a loot pinyota... no drops lead to cant progress...so you go farm gold to buy gold find gear for more gold and so on...but people with math can buy something and relisted it for more...
only 4 players...
smashing skills evrey second.... builds changed evrey ladder and a day before lunch
was buggy can redo parts to keep getting items

it looked good thow

then path of exile came out...and well its mixed too...

one point is online you can get gear or trade for gear easier then signal player. for better or worse.
