[1.07] eth weapon bug

Post by ArkonClem »

Hi every one,

I mainly wanted to play 1.07 to get eth weapons and forward them on later patches.
I read non reliable and infos on this and quite old (2007) :
Er, assuming TS is asking about making eth weapons indestructable, the base weapons have to be from patch 1.07 (maybe 1.08 works too, but I've tested and confirmed the 1.07 weapons glitch), otherwise the Zod-mod won't stick when you unsocket.

The idea is that Blizzard fudged up their handling of the indestructable property in 1.07 weapons, meaning that if you stick something in an 1.07 eth weapon that makes it indestructable and unsocket it with a character other than the one that made it (don't ask why), the indestructability remains.

Examples:

1.07 4os weapon --> Oath --> unsocket --> indestructable Kingslayer.
1.07 5os weapon --> Death --> unsocket --> indestructable Grief, or better, Beast.
any 1.07 eth weapon --> Zod --> unsocket --> well, you get the picture.

In practice though, only the first option is somewhat obtainable. The second option requires nuking a Vex and Gul. Ouch. On the other hand, good 5-rune runewords benefitting from the indestructability need runes > Vex, so if you have the wealth, go for it. The final option is pure theory, of course.
Seems completely false as runeword don't work at all in 1.07.
Plus another guy just says the contrary :
WRONG.

1.07 weapons are used only because of 50% higher max dmg, you can make eth indestructable with base items from 1.10/1.11.

Does anyone know what to do on this matter ?
The only thing I know is that I saw people using eth indestructible Berserker Axe with Grief or Beast.

Hey! I'm a bit late to the game, but regarding the eth bug, it works as follows:

Pre 1.10 the indestructible effect worked by setting an item's durability to zero, rather than being an innate magic property. In 1.07-1.09, anything you put a Zod into will set its durability to zero, which then when forwarded to 1.10+ and removed using the recipe, will retain the "legacy" 0-durability indestructible mode. Anything Zodded post 1.09 will not change the durability. There may have been battle.net specific server bugs that had other methods involving runewords, but those don't work in single player.

The problem of course is that there is no way to cube up runes in those patches, so you must get a Zod drop. If it wasn't already bad in 1.10, the chances are far worse in 1.08-1.09. In 1.07 it's strangely much more reasonable, but by reasonable that means "1 in 30k" for every rune17 drop. I believe @Pharphis over at diabloii.net got a 1.07 Zod from the cows a couple years ago.

Interesting. I do remember reading this in the "Major Bugs" section of the 1.10 patch notes:
A Zod Rune applied to an Ethereal item no longer reduces its durability to 0.
So if you Zod an eth item in 1.09, does it break the item permanently or is it still usable?

The item is still useable. However most people would prefer to Zod an eth item in 1.07 or 1.08 where ethereal weapons get a +50% ed magic property and then forwarded to 1.09+ have the built-in additional 50% ethereal bonus.

Good luck getting that Zod though ;P
