Re: Sad to see 1.00, 1.07, and 1.08 go from Singling. :(
Originally I was going to Time Travel to get Stone of Jordans easily and powerful items not available in later patches. The idea always felt cheesy but an argument for Time Traveling is that you could've been playing and collecting the items back in the day. In fact I have had the original CDs, back from launch, so I probably did play 1.00, it depends when I chose to go on Battle.net or keep up with patches. On the other hand, even if you did play back in the day you were unlikely to have many overpowerered items as the internet was still young and we had much less knowledge about the game.
I had a good guide on Time Travelling and wanted to follow it to get the complete Diablo II experience. Once I started leveling characters in 1.00 I found the experience very different however. The way you level in Classic (pre-expansion) is vastly different to the modern game. No Runewords, no Synergies, lower drop rate of rares and a different game balance. In the end I treated it as a way to experience Classic and started several characters.
fearedbliss is right that playing in 1.00 marred my experience. Once I got Battle Orders it was so easy to forget that the game will crash if you have logged out with BO on and login a mule to the same game. My level 35 Necromancer can no longer proceed past Normal as he has killed Diablo but been affected by the Tyrael quest bug.
Then I found myself getting into gameplay I don't really enjoy. Powerleveling characters for later patches meant I was sick of running the River of Flame. Cow Running is quite interesting as there are techniques to gettting fast runs and up to five rares in one drop. I wasn't looking forward to running Cow King over and over though. Once I had a high level character in 1.07 it felt disjointed as I hadn't played that patch but was rushing through Act V to complete it. I also wasn't looking forward to rack running, in reality you start the game over and over with a 1:1000 chance at a unique dropping from the rack. So 1 unique in every 1000 rack runs? Erk!
My advice would be Time Traveling for powerful items may be something some people enjoy. If you're already into Holy Grails and farming repeatedly then you'll be the kind of person that would also want to rack run. However, if you really just want to level characters and alts and don't like farming that much then don't Time Travel for powerful items. As fearedbliss is promoting, Time Travel to experience the game at different points in time without game-breaking bugs that ruin your fun.

For me it's just the opposite lol. I love farming for gear, especially for things I was never able to see/obtain as a kid. For me the leveling process is just a necessary chore/obstacle to get to the end goal of item seeking. Personally I wouldn't bother time traveling at all if not for the GG items.hedgesparrow wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 9:26 am However, if you really just want to level characters and alts and don't like farming that much then don't Time Travel for powerful items.

Re: Sad to see 1.00, 1.07, and 1.08 go from Singling. :(
Originally when I started exploring the patches it was primarily because I wanted to experience 1.09 because I started on the first season of 1.10 and I heard stories during that point of my life (When I was like 11-12 years old) of people showing me their -now weak- 1.09 characters. As I learned more I was interested about the OP items and I wanted to explore them a bit, but after doing more and more playing, I noticed that I didn't like forwarding stuff so I didn't and instead I spent a lot of time playing in those old versions, specifically more within stable versions that had all of the stuff I needed to have fun. Thus the OP items weren't really the main thing, at least.. I'm fine and definitely like having OP items within the particular stable versions of the game that I like, but I definitely didn't really care about trying to go to let's say 1.07, getting OP items (MPK rings, Arkaine's, etc) and then trying to bring those to 1.09. To me that kinda ruins the experience because 1.09 didn't actually have those items and that's not really what the 1.09 experience (at least on Single Player) would have been like. People can't really reproduce those 1.08-1.09 bnet days anyways because there were a lot of hacked items (White Items, Occy Rings, Hacked Constrictor Ring) that existed on bnet and were dominant, those items were never on older versions either way so you couldn't even forward those if you wanted to. But that's just me personally, everyone has their own goals when time traveling which is kinda the point of each of our individual adventures through these old patches.

I was fortunate enough to pick up the final distribution of Singling prior to the removal of those old versions. Since the admin aka fearedbliss said he's cool with us sharing the files, feel free to drop me a private message. I don't see any reason we shouldn't be able to enjoy the fruits of the labor that was already put forth in making those older versions more enjoyable/playable.DarkMaster wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 3:30 pm I don't see why these versions should be completely gutted from Singling, like I understand if you cease working on Singling for these versions but do they need to be completely removed? I don't see how including them in the package would increase maintenance at all besides just having to store them for downloading. I'm not a tech guy though so I dunno.
Would it be alright if somebody shared the version of Singling prior to this one? I was planning on playing on 1.00 and 1.07 but without Singling support, ehhh.![]()
Well I will ask you for that complete version as well if you don't mind

Re: Sad to see 1.00, 1.07, and 1.08 go from Singling. :(
@feardbiss : I was thinking, why not keeping realising all versions at the owner's risk ? A simple mention with a tick box could warn people with something like "no support for this version, may be instable or major bugs may alter you experience, play at your own risk"
I read the whole thread so I absolutely understand your choice. Nevertheless it was such a relief when I found Cactus and themovingcaravan after seeing Bliss-Version-Switcher wasn't existing anymore that I was like "what ? No more detailed version !"
Maybe you'll have many like me asking the same questions in the future.

Hey Arkon,
I re-added them back to Singling a while ago (this is an old thread lol). Closing to avoid further confusion and marking as resolved.
