Hello all,

This thread will contain the adventures of my new 1.05b HC Amazon, Ophelia. She is essentially a completely fresh, untwinked, remake of my previous 1.05b HC Zon, Lora. However, it's been so long since I've played Lora, and D2 in general (or it feels that way), that I decided to start from scratch... yet again. I'm looking forward to see how long this one lasts, for the record, Lora never died ;D.

Ophelia will also be a full Javazon, which was a challenging experience, especially in prelod Classic, since leveling is pretty slow (I'm on p1, but even using Singling's p8, it will eventually get slow, especially around level 30+), and also I wouldn't want to play p8 on prelod Classic atm since 1. It's HC and 2. the players scaling is pretty brutal, it's NOT the same as doing p8 in 1.09b. Anyways, since she is full javazon, Javelins are essentially what she will use later on in her development, but this will be probably around 35-40 when I'll start using them because Javelins in classic only come as a regular Javelin and as a superior. Although there are higher tier (exceptional) types of javelins, and javelins of different types (glaives for example). Each type of javelin has their pros and cons, including a shorter upper and lower bound, but a narrower amount (more predictable type) of damage, IIRC, Pilums fall into those category. I'll need to re-look at them again as I get into A2-A3. But regardless, the Level 35-40 range will allow me to start getting Lighting Fury pumped. Even with a pumped LF, I'll still need enough mana generation to sustain it since that's a VERY mana intensive build. I've only had an LF build in 1.09b, and that's a patch where mana pots dropped more generously (mana drop rates were increased when LOD 1.07 came out, and eventually Blizzard North decided to just add mana pots to the shops in general haha, although I do prefer mana pots not being sold in stores for a variety of reasons including the fact that selling mana means that a lot of affixes basically become useless (MPK and Warmth for example), let alone the loss of tactics and resource management becomes more trivial, but I digress).

When I was playing Lora, I actually had a lot of fun using swords, daggers, and other types of weapons to survive in HC. The nice thing about the Zon is that even if you don't use a javelin, she is a beast. Having general tactical skills like Critical Strike, Dodge, Avoid, Evade, Inner Sight, Slow Missles, Valk, essentially means you have a character that can boost the base damage of every attack - because she crits very often, 3 hard points is the base that I would recommend for CS, but I would boost it even higher because I would prefer to have close to 50% CS, and + all skills is not that common in prelod, eventually you'll get some gear for +all skills, but it's gonna take some time). I would argue that she may even be a bit better than a Barb when it comes to the tactical survival, at least at the core level. But it's hard to beat a Barb lol, he's a beast and also you get more health per point and all of that. So yea.. I suppose even though I would rank a Zon high up there in general survivability, especially when it comes to 1v1, the Barb is still the best I suppose.

I really do love that every character in prelod (and Blizzard North's general philosophy) is unique in their own way, and _definitely not balanced_. Games nowadays try to balance everything way too much. Don't balance it lol. Let people struggle and figure out weird strategies to overcome character limitations. This is a direct philosophy that I hard Erich Schaefer stated, and honestly, I support it.

Anyways, I found a nice little rare sword to start off the process. I currently rescued Cain and am heading to the countess next. Stay tune.

Ophelia has defeated Andy in A1 Normal, Radament, and has retrieved the cube. She is currently level 14 and healthy. She has eaten plenty of carbs, proteins, and fats to sustain her growth. Nothing crazy on the gear side but there have been some incremental improvements that all make a difference. Screenshots attached. I've also published the A1 video which can be found in this directory (check OP videos link).

Nice bro. These are the kinds of posts I missed 🥹

And the bit about Ophelia eating plenty of carbs/proteins/fats cracked me up 😂

Yesterday Ophelia defeated Duriel and reached A3. I was able to find the eye, and am currently looking for the Spider Forest waypoint before moving forward. In A2, I found a beautiful armor that feels amazing to have. It really means a lot since in 1.05b, you are always starving and hungry for items. No version of Diablo II has come close to the "starvation feeling" and significance of impact as 1.05b (although any prelod version would do this). In reality, since the drop rates for 1.07 and 1.08 are still low, you would get a feeling close to it as well in those patches, but the new balance is different so it's not exactly the same (this includes itemization possibilities and the psychological impact of those types of drops). Attached are some screenshots, and below is also the armor itself <3. Assuming I don't die, it's gonna be a while before another armor can beat this I think, I hope the game proves me wrong lol. I've uploaded her A2 video to her folder, check the link on the OP. You can skip to 3:06:45 for the Rare Armor drop ;D.

@Manny We may want to increase the limit on the number of photos (and maybe file size depending on how much space the server has). It seems I can only upload up to 10. Also, I have to admit that the Xenforo "Spoiler Blur" effect is pretty cool, although my eyes gonna have to get used to that lol.

Yo! Thanks for the feedback. I've increased the limit for images/attachments to 100 per message, and the maximum file size to 100mb. I think that should do the trick, but let me know your thoughts. Hope that works next time you upload. At any rate, server space won't be a concern for us. 😌

And yeah, the spoiler blur is definitely trippy! 😵

Haha that limit is crazy high. The 100 images is fine but the total MB size can prolly be lowered to 20-30 MB max per photo, most photos should be lower than that. If it’s a screenshot from the game it will be way lower, but it’s nice to have the general limit in case we post screenshots from other games. Like when I was posting the Hellgate London screenshots in the Bloodline forum, those screenshots get kinda big (like 3-12 ish MB IIRC). Is that 100 Mb per photo or for the post itself? We can adjust as we go. I’m glad storage isn’t really a concern for us though, so feel free to leave it at whatever you want. Another request (and this may not be possible) but forum currently has a limit of 10k characters per post, so this is preventing me from editing some of my previous posts cause they went over (retained from the migration). How easy would it be to increase that?

@fearedbliss Cmon! Go big or go home, bro! Drop us some 4K raw footage in here 🤣

Nah... you're right though... just cuz you can... doesn't mean you should...

We're at a more reasonable 25MB now 😌

BTW, that Grim Wrap is a sexy armor for leveling in classic!

Ophelia has reached A4 Normal. I found some rares, and used my imbue quest on a War Axe, it's my current weapon ;D. Ormus quest gave an ok ring, it was still an upgrade compared to my last one, but nothing crazy. Mephisto dropped a Steeldriver. Video will be available once it's done rendering and will be placed in the usual folder.

Let Ophelia be now known as Countess Ophelia! She has defeated Diablo in Normal, and he is no more. Took a while, but slow and steady wins the race. I found some more rares but nothing too crazy. The 10% ML flail was nice and became my main weapon for now, but it will be nice once I get a weapon with higher base damage. The A4 video is available in the usual directory.

I'm retiring Ophelia and will start a completely brand new stash with a different set of rules/restrictions. Stay tuned for my next character post.

Would be interesting to try out a multi-shot/immolation zon. I don't remember which patch, but at one point each arrow of multiple shot could hit the same target, making it super OP. They also nerfed it to 3/4 damage in 1.07. Immolation also got the beat stick with the casting delay.

Yeah you were the one that told me about this for 1.05b (every arrow procs). I'm eventually gonna make a bow zon in 1.05b for sure but I still need to make this Classic Javazon (regardless of mw only having white javelins). But gonna restart with a different mental configuration.

Which version had MS damaging on each arrow? The old guides I've read say that it would do a hit check with each arrow, but once a check succeeded, the monster was immune to further arrows in the volley. It's a cool trick, but given that GA autohits, it feels a bit redundant.

I vaguely recall seeing that MS always applied the 3/4 damage penalty, but it wasn't visible in the skill description/LCS until 1.07.

It would be good to test in game just to be sure. I know I read about it somewhere, at some point MS hit every target and they nerfed it, thankfully my old post on IncGamers is backed up. I had posted a copy of some patch notes but it's not included there.
Apparently MS was nerfed too, multiple arrows would hit the same target (I though that was the case in 1.00?).
Sadly, it appears the website http://www.network54.com/Forum/31101 was shutdown not long after I made that post, so all is lost. That was the old lurker lounge from early 2000. It may have been they nerfed MS with both the 3/4 damage and hit-check during the battle.net beta. Sadly we have no backup of those posts, and I never bothered back then.
