(Ophelia's Videos)
Hello all,
This thread will contain the adventures of my new 1.05b HC Amazon, Ophelia. She is essentially a completely fresh, untwinked, remake of my previous 1.05b HC Zon, Lora. However, it's been so long since I've played Lora, and D2 in general (or it feels that way), that I decided to start from scratch... yet again. I'm looking forward to see how long this one lasts, for the record, Lora never died ;D.
Ophelia will also be a full Javazon, which was a challenging experience, especially in prelod Classic, since leveling is pretty slow (I'm on p1, but even using Singling's p8, it will eventually get slow, especially around level 30+), and also I wouldn't want to play p8 on prelod Classic atm since 1. It's HC and 2. the players scaling is pretty brutal, it's NOT the same as doing p8 in 1.09b. Anyways, since she is full javazon, Javelins are essentially what she will use later on in her development, but this will be probably around 35-40 when I'll start using them because Javelins in classic only come as a regular Javelin and as a superior. Although there are higher tier (exceptional) types of javelins, and javelins of different types (glaives for example). Each type of javelin has their pros and cons, including a shorter upper and lower bound, but a narrower amount (more predictable type) of damage, IIRC, Pilums fall into those category. I'll need to re-look at them again as I get into A2-A3. But regardless, the Level 35-40 range will allow me to start getting Lighting Fury pumped. Even with a pumped LF, I'll still need enough mana generation to sustain it since that's a VERY mana intensive build. I've only had an LF build in 1.09b, and that's a patch where mana pots dropped more generously (mana drop rates were increased when LOD 1.07 came out, and eventually Blizzard North decided to just add mana pots to the shops in general haha, although I do prefer mana pots not being sold in stores for a variety of reasons including the fact that selling mana means that a lot of affixes basically become useless (MPK and Warmth for example), let alone the loss of tactics and resource management becomes more trivial, but I digress).
When I was playing Lora, I actually had a lot of fun using swords, daggers, and other types of weapons to survive in HC. The nice thing about the Zon is that even if you don't use a javelin, she is a beast. Having general tactical skills like Critical Strike, Dodge, Avoid, Evade, Inner Sight, Slow Missles, Valk, essentially means you have a character that can boost the base damage of every attack - because she crits very often, 3 hard points is the base that I would recommend for CS, but I would boost it even higher because I would prefer to have close to 50% CS, and + all skills is not that common in prelod, eventually you'll get some gear for +all skills, but it's gonna take some time). I would argue that she may even be a bit better than a Barb when it comes to the tactical survival, at least at the core level. But it's hard to beat a Barb lol, he's a beast and also you get more health per point and all of that. So yea.. I suppose even though I would rank a Zon high up there in general survivability, especially when it comes to 1v1, the Barb is still the best I suppose.
I really do love that every character in prelod (and Blizzard North's general philosophy) is unique in their own way, and _definitely not balanced_. Games nowadays try to balance everything way too much. Don't balance it lol. Let people struggle and figure out weird strategies to overcome character limitations. This is a direct philosophy that I hard Erich Schaefer stated, and honestly, I support it.
Anyways, I found a nice little rare sword to start off the process. I currently rescued Cain and am heading to the countess next. Stay tune.
